Guitar Music
What are these terms in Guitar Music?
I think they’re not used only in guitar music, but reffering to the guitar, there are some terms I don’t understand. What is, when you say “A major third” or “a major nineth” or the “minor seventh” or “the flat five”. I don’t really know what are those. And are they used only in chords, or also in scale related things? Please explain me in depth what those things mean and how can I understand them.
Those are intervals between notes.
Basically, it’s the “distance” from one note to the other.
For instance, if you play an A and a C, that’s a third.
If you play an A and an E that’s a fifth.
And if you play an A (root note) , a C and an E together you’ve made a major chord. (in this case, A major)
This are not guitar specific.
This is standard music theory, and it applies to all music, for all instruments.
I know guitar players (myself included) often say we don’t need to learn music theory, but if we are going to try and communicate with other musicians, we need to know the language.
